On September 6, 1977, Meadowlands opened its doors for its first ever Thoroughbred meet to 25,158 who bet $2,480,393. The John Mazza-trained PlaythePalace won the first race and Rushing Man became the first stakes winner at the East Rutherford track when he won the Paterson Handicap the same night. Sam Maple ran away with the jockey‘s title with 82 wins. Denise O‘Hara became the first female jockey to win a race at the Meadowlands Racetrack with Jersey Giant.

Turf Course: Seven furlongs, oval.
